Holiday Break Safety Tips
Holidays are fast approaching, which means students, faculty, staff, and Macomb residents are reminded to guard or hide personal property. The Office of Public Safety and Macomb Police Department has compiled a checklist for you to make sure all your belongings are safe.
- Take all valuables home. This included Laptops, music players, video game systems and televisions. Those are the most common pieces of property that are stolen.
- Avoid leaving items in plain view in vehicles.
- Engrave personal property. Through MPD's Operation ID, individuals can check out an engraver from the department (120 S. McArthur St.) from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Engrave your licence plate number on items, incase the item is retrieved it can be given back to you quickly.
- Leave on outdoor lights and even a room light to detour theft.
Local authorities will be providing extra patrol near campus during holiday breaks to keep your belongings safe.
If you see any suspicious activity during break, contact OPS at 309-298-1949 or call local police at 309-833-4505. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
Enjoy your holiday!
