Hungry for the Hunger Games

For some, November 22 cannot come sooner. “Catching Fire” is due to release at midnight.  The second movie in “The Hunger Games” trilogy, is projected to be a box office hit!

If you have not seen “The Hunger Games” or read the books here is a summery of what you need to know before standing inline for the midnight premier: The setting is Panem, a country created after the government of North America collapsed, set some hundred years in the future.   The star is Katniss Everdeen who voluntarily enters into the Hunger Games in place of her younger sister. What is the Hunger Games you ask!? Good question.

To answer that you need to know that the city of Panem has a Capitol and 12 districts.  The Capitol is where the rich live and the districts where the poor resign.  This gap between the rich and the poor causes huge inequality. Every year two young representatives from every district are chosen to enter into The Hunger Games.  This is a fight to the death, last person standing game…. Literally.  It is televised and all of Panem is required to watch.  It is brutal and ruthless, yet residents of the Capitol find it entertaining.  The only survivor “wins” the game.

Now that you know all that you need to know that the story follows Katniss and her struggles throughout the story.  Katniss is from District 12.  District 12 sends in Katniss and Peeta Mellark.  Fast forward to the end (SPOILER ALERT) Katniss are the only two survivors, and one of them needs to kill the other one.  The twist is that Katniss and Peeta are planning on taking their own lives and through off the entire game.  The host of the games stops them and both are declared the winner.  This messes up the dynamic of the entire city of Panem.

“Catching Fire” starts up where the first book/movie leaves off. Katniss and Peeta have now become targets of the Capitol.  Their actions have caused a rebellion by the Districts against the Capitol.  The movie is full of action and is a must see!!
