Timely Tips from OPS
A reminder from the Office of Public Safety and the Macomb Police Department… with the holidays approaching, please remember to lock up all belongings, doors, and vehicles, even when leaving for only a few moments. In addition, don’t leave backpacks, purses, bags, or books attended and don’t leave items in plain view in a vehicle overnight. Students in residence halls are also advised not to leave laundry unattended in the laundry rooms. These tips will help you from becoming a victim of the “Five Finger Discount.”
Aside from securing belongings, everyone is reminded to safeguard themselves. As always, avoid walking alone and be aware of your surroundings. Travel in populated, well-lit areas, and when needed call the OPS Student Patrol escort service. Students should also trust their instincts at all times and use good judgment. Also, avoid the use of alcohol and drugs because they impair judgment.
Western’s Student Patrol offers escorts during the evening and early morning hours and if they are not available, an OPS officer will provide the escort. There are also 48 emergency callboxes located around campus that will immediately notify police.
Be safe this holiday season and always keep these helpful tips in mind.
