Old-School Meets New Era
Do you remember the video games such as “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “PAC-MAN,” “Mario,” “Mortal Kombat,” and Al from “Wreck It Ralph ?” Many students at Western Illinois University who were born in the late 1980’s, and early 1990’s have good memories of the Sega Genesis, and Nintendo 64. The movie “Wreck It Ralph” is a motion picture about the villains from these old-school video games who are trying to figure out why they can never beat the good guys. The WIU Anime Club is very excited to see this film due to the fact that many of their favorite characters are in this movie. Joshua Worth, Public Relations of the WIU Anime Club states, “I love Sonic the Hedgehog. His last few years of gaming haven’t been that good, but seeing my childhood hero on the big screen is going to be so cool!” The members of the Anime Club are all ready to see this movie, and nothing is going to stop them.
There are some WIU students however that say that they are even more excited than the Anime Club for “Wreck It Ralph,” and they are going to prove it. Chris Newman, member of the WIU Gamers Guild states, “we at the Gamers Guild will be dressing up as our favorite characters. We are trying to keep calm, but some of us may even go as far as to shout when a certain character appears on the big screen. This is a big deal, not just for us, but for so many 90’s babies because this is our childhood come to life, and we are extremely excited to see this movie!” The friendly competition of excitement between the Anime Club and Gamers Guild should be an interesting thing to see.
“Wreck It Ralph” will premier at the Rialto in Macomb on Friday at 5pm.
