As part of renovation of the space, a commissioned sculpture by Joyce Lopez is located in the lobby and is entitled “SEEING music.”
A native of Chicago, Lopez attended the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Illinois. Lopez is a prolific and accomplished sculptor and photographer. Her fiber sculpture work consists of chromed steel tubes hand wrapped with French thread; the tubes are then bolted to a steel frame and together, the wrapped tubes form a colorful, complex design, drawing on the different cultures of the world.
Her work is included collections of the Sony Corporation of America, Nokia Collection, Fortune Brands, State of Washington, State of Illinois, City of Chicago, among others, and many private collections. Her work has also been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and internationally. Recent exhibitions include the International Tapestry Exhibition in Beijing, China and “Innovation and Tradition Exhibition” in Riga, Latvia.
