Meet Our Students

2012 Graduate

Todd DeDecker

Todd Dedecker graduated from the Museum Studies program in May 2012. Before starting the Museum Studies program, Todd received a BA in Social Science Teaching from the University of Northern Iowa. After teaching high school social studies and working as a coach for 16 years, Todd wanted to find a new way to share his love of history with others.

Today, Todd is the Administrator for the Bishop Hill Heritage Association in Bishop Hill, IL. As the Administrator, Todd fills a variety of roles. "In this position, I do a little bit of everything: grant writing, exhibits, collection care, advertising, supervising construction projects, creating a website, organizing festivals, and more."

While having to accomplish all of these tasks is a challenge, it is also what Todd finds the most enjoyable about his work. He likes having the ability to work on something new and interesting every day.

For students just starting in the Museum Studies program, Todd has some advice: "Work on your communication skills in different formats with a variety of audiences."
