How to Apply

To apply for the Master of Music in Music Education program, candidates will complete the following:

  1. Complete the WIU School of Graduate Studies Application
  2. Submit the following supporting materials via this School of Music Graduate Application Form (email Dr. Gina Yi at gj-yi@wiu.edu with any questions)
    • A goals statement that also outlines your philosophy of music education (about 500 words) 
    • A YouTube link to a video sample of classroom or ensemble teaching (about 10 minutes) 
    • 2 letters of recommendation
  3. Complete an interview with the WIU Music Education faculty. The interview can be conducted live or via an online video conferencing platform (e.g., Skype, Google Meet, Zoom). Contact Dr. Gina Yi at gj-yi@wiu.edu to set up a day/time for your interview.
  4. Contact your previous colleges and request official transcripts be sent directly to the WIU School of Graduate Studies.

Note: The WIU School of Graduate Studies accepts applications on a "rolling basis," so there is no specific application deadline; however, applicants are encouraged to apply early to ensure enrollment in required courses.
