Western Hornist

2012 Western Horn Festival

Hosted by Randall E. Faust

Western Illinois University held its annual Horn Festival on February 19, 2012.

Grammy-Award winning Hornist Andrew Pelletier returned for his 10th anniversary performance as a guest soloist for the Western Illinois University Horn Festival. Dr Pelletier performed at the first Western Illinois Horn Festival in 2002 and in 2012, was featured performing works by Mozart, Rosetti, Faust, Kocsar and Harold East. A special feature of the 2012 Festival was the presentations and performances by Jeffrey Agrell — the author of "Improvisation Games for Musicians." In addition, to his clinics and performances of original compositions, Professor Agrell directed a Festival Ensemble in an original Soundpainting.

Another special feature was the presentation on Dr. Gary Reeves on the historical instruments at the National Music Museum at the University of South Dakota—including a performance of the Horn Concerto K. 447 of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on an historic horn from the National Music Museum. Furthermore, one of our Horn Alumni--Katherine Massa--presented a solo clinic—as well as an original composition for horn and piano. Finally, hornist and composer Thomas Jöstlein conducted a rousing performance of his Campbell Fanfare with the Festival Horn Ensemble—as well as joining Andrew Pelletier and Randall Faust in the performance of a Divertimento by Mozart.
