Summer 2012 was the first year of a study abroad program for graduate students in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Jamie Monier and Cassie Henry were the first students to experience a summer studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University in Cardiff, Wales. Through their clinical practicum experiences in hospitals, schools, and clinics they learned the differences in health care delivery between the U.S. and U.K.

As part of the international exchange, two students from Wales spent the summer studying at WIU which allowed our faculty and students to learn about the field of speech-language pathology from a different cultural perspective.

The department is currently taking applications for the Summer 2013 program and we are looking forward to many years of continued collaboration with Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Thanks to Maureen Marx and Ellen Ehgrott at WIU and Sarah Patten at CMU for making this study abroad experience such a great success.
