EMMA PASK QUINTET HEADS LINEUP AT CHATSWOOD HIGH CONCERT
The acclaimed Australian vocalist Emma Pask - who sang for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s wedding - will head the line-up of musical luminaries who will be entertaining jazz and big band fans at Chatswood High’s June 15th Concert.
The Emma Pask Quintet is featured on the programme with Dr Michael Fansler of Western Illinois University in the USA, who will be the guest conductor of Chatswood High’s Senior Concert Band.
Dr Fansler has conducted in Australia, Germany, Holland, and throughout the United States, where he is an experienced guest adjudicator and conductor of numerous college, high school and community bands.
Last month (May) the Chatswood High Senior Concert Band and Stage Band won the RSL’s North Shore High School Music Spectacular for the third time in four years.
Mr Gavin Staines, Co-ordinator of Chatswood High’s Band and Music Programme, said his Concert Band would be rehearsing over the June long weekend with Dr Fansler in the lead up to the concert. Michael is coming to Sydney just to work with the Chatswood High students.
“Michael is a renown guest conductor who has helped develop the musical skills of young people all over the world. Chatswood High is thrilled he can share his insights with our talented students” said Gavin.
“Emma Pask is a great talent and her professional band will add greatly to the concert on June 15th and this is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in jazz to take in some great music at an affordable price,” he said.
Emma’s talent was spotted by leading Australian jazzman James Morrison during one of his regular visits to high schools when she was just 16. She first sang with his band that night and has been touring with Morrison around Australia and overseas ever since.
While Emma’s voice and style are unique and individually her own, her performances are reminiscent of the classic era of jazz, when swing was top of the charts.
In 2006, Emma performed The Bridal Waltz for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s wedding, performing through the evening with the Sydney All Star Big Band.
Emma has appeared on national TV shows like Hey, Hey Its Saturday, the Midday Show, Good Morning Australia, the Today Show, and has also sung to VIP audiences including the late Diana, Princess of Wales, Princess Mary of Denmark, and the Prime Minister of Australia.
