Cheadle Thanks Kurasz for Steel Band 25th
Richard Cheadle just sent this lovely note thanking Rick Kurasz for the great Steel Band 25th Anniversary event. Kurasz had invited Cheadle, who founded the Steel Band, as the guest of honor. Many, many alums attended to participate and reminisce and encourage today’s students to continue the good work of the excellent WIU Steel Band…..25 years young.
See Cheadle’s note below.

Thank you so much for inviting me and the alumni steel band members to the
25th Anniversary Steel Band Concert last Saturday. It is impossible to tell
you how much I enjoyed coming back and playing with everyone. I know how
hard you worked to organize this event and it turned out to be a fantastic
success. The stage was full of pans, the house was standing room only, two
standing ovations and I got to play and speak. Wow!!! I could not have
asked for more.
Many of your students have emailed me expressing their gratitude for
starting the group back in 1985. They also enjoyed hearing the comments
about the early history of the band. You are carrying on the steel band
legacy with great success. Your students played beautifully and were so
gracious at the rehearsal and performance. Please tell then thanks for me.
I have written to many of them already.
The reception at the Alumni House was a nice conclusion to the evening. I
enjoyed talking to you, your students, alumni and guests.
The steel band at WIU is alive and well thanks to your leadership. Keep in
touch and make sure you let me know when the band plays again.
