Lisa A. Miczo is currently a full professor in the Department of Communication at Western Illinois University. She received her B. A. in Journalism and Mass Communication (Advertising and Public Relations). She spent 4 ½ years in advertising before making the decision to attend graduate school. She received her M. A. from the University of Kansas in Communication Studies and went on to get her Ph.D. in Communication (with an emphasis in Family Communication) from the University of Arizona in 2000.

She has been awarded the Thompson Professor Faculty Research twice (2006-2007 and 2002-2003), was awarded Outstanding Teaching for the College of Fine Arts and Communication in 2006, and has been included in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Dr. Miczo enjoys reading, good movies, and spending time with family.

Research Interests

Her research efforts tend to mix her interests in both interpersonal and nonverbal communication. She has published articles in the Journal of Family Communication, Communication Quarterly, Communication Reports, and Computers and Human Behavior, as well as several book chapters.
