About the Artist
Charles Wright serves as the chair of the Department of Art. He came to WIU in 2007, after serving as chair of the Department of
Visual Arts at Coastal Carolina University from 1994 - 2005. He currently teaches Introduction to Art. Charles continues to exhibit
and works in a variety of sculptural media with welded steel being the main focus of his art. His special interest is in new media.
His artwork has been exhibited regionally and nationally and is included in a number of private and public collections.
Charles is a native of Conway, S.C. He is a member the National Council of Arts Administrators, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the College Art Association,
and Tri-State Sculptors.
He believes that his primary role as an academic professional is to be an effective advocate and facilitator for faculty and students. His motto is "ars longa, vita brevis", his translation, "life is short, but art is forever."
