Ivy Cassidy Foster Scholarship

HISTORY:
Given in honor of  Ivy Cassidy Foster, this scholarship Endowment was established November 2, 1999 by the Mary Ilo Smith Charitable Foundation to provide scholarship assistance to talented and needy students majoring in primary/secondary education.  Ivy Cassidy Foster attended Western in the early 1900's and shared the values, enthusiasm and commitment associated with teacher education.

CRITERIA:

  • Be in the Teacher Education Curriculum.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better.
  • Completed 30 semester hours.
  • Demonstrate/document financial need.
  • Be sophomore, junior, senior.

TERMS: Award amount varies based on annual interest earned on endowment.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection of the scholarship recipient will be made by Office of Teacher Education Scholarship Committee, Horrabin Hall 40.

Evidence of outstanding potential as a teacher will be considered in awarding the scholarship.  Co-curricular/extra-curricular activities, employment history, and volunteer activities will also be considered.

Financial need will be one of the primary considerations in making the selection.  The selection process will begin on or around April 1, and continue until a qualified candidate is selected.

RENEWABLE? Automatic renewal, recipient must maintain a 3.25 cum GPA and remain in the Teacher Education Curriculum.
