Carol and Bill Myers Education Scholarship

HISTORY:

The Carol and Bill Myers Education Scholarship Fund was created by Carol and Bill Myers. Carol and Bill met while attending Western  Illinois University in 1968, and were married September 5, 1970.

Carol (Osborn) Myers was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and after moving to Illinois, graduated from Wheaton  Central High School. Carol graduated in August, 1972, with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She also earned a M.S. in Education from Northern Illinois University. Carol taught second grade in Schaumburg District 54 and Saint Charles Community  School District 303.

Clifford (Bill) Myers is from DeKalb, Illinois and graduated  from Western  Illinois University in May, 1971, with a B.S. in Industrial Technology  and a certificate in Education. He also earned a M.S. in Technology  from Northern Illinois University. While at Western, Bill helped bring the national fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha to campus in 1970. Bill taught in Township  High School District 211 in the Applied Technology  Department at Hoffman  Estates  High School, and later was the Technology  Coordinator at Schaumburg High School.

Both Carol and Bill had rewarding careers in education. They hope  to assist an appropriate recipient with support in achieving their goals to be an educator.


CRITERIA:

  • Seeking to achieve a teaching certificate through the WIU Teacher Education Program.
  • Achieved Junior status at Western Illinois University and has a declared major in education.
  • Has a cmulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • Graduate of a public high school in Illinois.
  • Leadership, extracurricular activities, and community service are considered.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated financial need.

TERMS: Award amount varies based on annual interest earned on endowment.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The scholarship recipient will be selected by the Office of Teacher Education Scholarship Committee.
