MAJ Michael R. Porter commissioned into the Army Reserve on 5 May 2005. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. MAJ Porter also holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management from the University of Phoenix.

MAJ Porter has held various leadership and staff positions at the platoon and command levels. His previous assignments include: Plans Officer with 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion; HHC Commander with 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional); Homeland Operations CRE Officer with HQ USARC G-33; USARC G-3/5/7 LNO / ARA Operations Officer with Army Reserve Affairs Team; Operations Officer with HQ USARC G-33; Brigade Assistant S-9 with CJTF-101 CJ9; Civil Affairs Team Leader with 1314th CA CO (Provisional); Troop Commander with William Beaumont Army Medical Center; Medical Platoon Leader with 6253rd USAH; Simultaneous Membership Program with CO B, 8/229th AVN REGT. In addition, MAJ Porter has conducted three combat tours (2x Afghanistan and 1x Iraq) and one overseas assignment in Kuwait.

MAJ Porter’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Joint Commendation Service Medal; four Army Commendation Medals; Joint Service Achievement Medal; three Army Achievement Medals; Expert Field Medical Badge and Air Assault Badge.

He is the father of two beautiful kids; his son Michael and daughter Charlotte.
