Rich Homan



SGM(R) Homan rejoined the Military Science Department 3 November 2008. He retired 1 August 1999 after serving 27 years on active duty with the United States Army.

SGM(R) Homan held every leadership position from Team Leader to First Sergeant and staff positions at battalion, brigade, and division level while serving with the Berlin Brigade, 194th Armored Brigade, 7th and 25th Infantry Divisions, and three assignments to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He also served as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and as First Sergeant at the KATUSA Training Academy in the Republic of Korea.

His final duty assignment was as Chief Master Instructor in the Western Illinois University Military Science Department.

SGM(R) Homan's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat and Expert Infantryman Badges, the Air Assault Badge, and Drill Sergeant Badge. He earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Western Illinois University in 1999 and 2001 respectively. He is married to the former Sherry Sullivan and they have one son, a student at WIU, a daughter-in-law, and two granddaughter.
