Centennial Honors College

Social Work

Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the one-hour honors colloquium (GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower Division Honors.

Honors students in Social Work must complete all requirements for a major in Social Work.

Grade Requirements

  • 3.4 overall GPA
  • 3.5 GPA in honors courses

General Honors Requirements

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some cases)
  • GH 299 (one semester hour)

Departmental Honors Requirements

  • GH 299
  • 6 semester hours in honors seminars (GH 302 or GH 402) in the Social Sciences (Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology), or 6 semester hours as in course honors in social work, or a combination of General Honors courses and in course honors.
  • 3 semester hours of SW 496 (Senior Honors Thesis) or take one, 3 semester hour 300-400 level Social Work course for in course honors.

University Honors

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar may be substituted)
  • GH 299
  • 6 semester hours of Social Science honors seminars, or 6 hours of in course honors in 300-400 level social work classes, or a combination of in course honors and General Honors
  • 3 semester hours of SW 496 (Senior Honors Thesis) or an in course honors in a 300-400 level Social Work class
