Mathematics

Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the onehour honors colloquium (GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower Division Honors.

Honors students in Mathematics must complete all requirements for a major in Mathematics.

Grade Requirements

  • 3.4 overall GPA
  • 3.4 GPA in honors courses
  • A grade of A or B in each departmental course is required for the Honors College (a grade of C in a mathematics course earns credit for the major but it will not count as honors credit).

Lower Division Honors Requirements

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some cases)
  • GH 299 (one semester hour)

Upper Division Honors Requirements

  • GH 299
  • 12 semester hours of credit in mathematics honors courses (incourse honors, or Math 197, 297, 397,444, or 497) six of which must be at the 400 level and an additional three at the 300-400 level.
  • A student who intends to write a senior honors thesis in Mathematics should enroll for a maximum of three semester hours in Math 497.

University Honors

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar may be substituted)
  • GH 299
  • 12 semester hours of honors credit in mathematics
