History

Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the onehour honors colloquium (GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower Division Honors.

Honors students in History must complete all requirements for a major in History or History-Teacher Certification.

Grade Requirements

  • 3.4 overall GPA
  • 3.5 GPA in Honors courses

Lower Division Honors Requirements

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some cases)
  • GH 299 (one semester hour)

Upper Division Honors Requirements

  • GH 299
  • 3 semester hours of Hist 490H (Honors Thesis)
  • 3 semester hours of in course honors in History from any course available
  • 6 semester hours of some combination of in course honors at the 300-400 level or General Honors Seminars in the Humanities or Social Sciences, or 6 semester hours of Humanities or Social Science Seminars
  • Note: Ordinarily Humanities or Social Science Honors Seminars do not count toward completion of major requirements unless also listed under a History Department number. Consult the History advisor for credit information.

University Honors

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar may be substituted)
  • GH 299
  • 3 semester hours of Hist 490H
  • 3 semester hours of in course honors in History
  • 6 semester hours of in course honors in History or General Honors seminars in the Humanities or Social Sciences
