Centennial Honors College

Geology

Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the onehour honors colloquium (GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower Division Honors.

Honors students in Geology must complete all requirements for a Geology major.

Grade Requirements

  • 3.4 overall GPA
  • 3.4 GPA in honors courses
  • 3.4 GPA in Geology courses
  • An A or B grade for honors credit. A grade of C or lower in an in course honors course will count toward Geology, but not toward the Honors Curriculum.

Lower Division Honors Requirements

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some cases)
  • GH 299 (one semester hour)

Upper Division Honors Requirements

  • GH 299
  • 14 semester hours of courses in Geology for in course honors. Only 300 and 400 level courses may be taken for honors credit (Geol 361362 and Geol 460 excluded). Students must achieve an A or B grade for honors credit. A grade of C or lower in an in course honors course will count toward Geology, but not toward the Honors Curriculum. Students must complete, with a Cgrade or better: CS 201 Computer Science Principles I, and Eng 381 Scientific and Technical Writing.
  • 3 semester hours of Geol 462 (Honors Thesis). These hours count toward the 14 semester hours listed above

University Honors

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar may be substituted)
  • GH 299
  • 11 hours of incourse honors in Geology
  • 3 hours of Geol 462 (Honors Thesis)
  • CS 201 and Eng 381
