Geography

Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the onehour honors colloquium (GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower Division Honors.

Honors students in Geography must complete all requirements for a Geography major.

Grade Requirements

  • 3.4 overall GPA
  • 3.4 GPA in honors courses

Lower Division Honors Requirements

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some cases)
  • GH 299 (one semester hour)

Upper Division Honors Requirements

  • GH 299
  • 9 semester hours of in course honors in the Department. (only 300400 level Geography courses may be taken for in course honors.)
  • Complete 3 semester hours of Geography 495 (Honors Thesis). This involves writing a thesis under the supervision of a faculty advisor based upon research completed while enrolled in Geography 499H (Directed Research; 2 semester hours).

University Honors

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar may be substituted)
  • GH 299
  • 9 semester hours of in course honors at 300400 level
  • 5 semester hours to include Geography 495 (Honors Thesis) and Geography 499H (Directed Research)
