Family & Consumer Sciences

Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the one hour honors colloquium (GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower Division Honors.

Honors students in Family and Consumer Sciences must complete all requirements for a major in Family and Consumer Sciences.

Grade Requirements

  • 3.4 overall GPA
  • 3.4 GPA in Honors courses

Lower Division Honors Requirements

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some cases)
  • GH 299 (one semester hour)

Upper Division Honors Requirements

  • GH 299
  • 12 semester hours of in course honors in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Nine (9) semester hours must be at the 300400 level. Departmental honors courses will help fulfill requirements for a major in Family and Consumer Sciences. All 300 level and 400 level courses in Family and Consumer Sciences may be taken for in course honors through consultation between student and instructor to determine nature of additional work.

University Honors

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar may be substituted)
  • GH 299
  • 12 semester hours of in course Family and Consumer Sciences, 9 of which must be 300 400 level.
