Economics

Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the onehour honors colloquium (GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower Division Honors.

Honors students in Economics must complete all requirements for a Bachelor of Arts major in Economics.

Grade Requirements

  • 3.4 overall GPA
  • 3.4 GPA in honors courses

Lower Division Honors Requirements

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some cases)
  • GH 299 (one semester hour)

Upper Division Honors Requirements

  • GH 299
  • 12 semester hours to include:
  • 9 semester hours honors work in Economics to be selected from the following: Econ 231, 232, 330, 331, 332, 328, 325. For other honors contract or in course honors course options, contact the department chair.
  • 3 semester hours of Econ 499H to be completed as follows: 1 semester hour for research and planning and 2 semester hours for writing during consecutive semesters. This is a required Honors Thesis which may also count toward the 9 semester hours of Economics honors course work.

University Honors

  • Two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
  • An honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar may be substituted)
  • GH 299
  • 9 semester hours of in course honors
  • 3 semester hours of Econ 499H (thesis)
