Department of Psychology

Application Process

Prospective students must submit the following application materials for admission to the Experimental Psychology program:

  • Application for admission
  • Transcripts of all undergraduate work
  • Scores on the aptitude portion of the Graduate Record Exam. The GRE Psychology Subject Test is not required
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least two of these letters should be from faculty familiar with the applicant’s academic work. If the applicant has work experience in a human service setting, a recommendation from the supervisor of that work is useful)
  • A biographical statement emphasizing academic, nonacademic, and employment experiences relevant to the degree program selected. For the General Experimental program, past research experience is particularly valued
  • Additional application and admission information for all three psychology programs can be found  in the Guidelines for Graduate Studies

All materials should be submitted:

Admission decisions involve a two-stage process, with admission to the graduate school being determined separately from admission to the degree program in the department.

Applications received by the Graduate School by February 1 receive priority consideration. Screening of applications typically begins around March 1 and continues until all positions are filled.
