American Physical Society (APS) Prairie Section meeting

Illinois section of the American Association of Physics Teachers

  • The ISAAPT sponsors two conferences each year.
  • The fall meeting is directed towards high school teaching, and will be held at Bradley Univ. on October 21 and 22.
  • The spring meeting features a Student Research Symposium, and will be held at Eastern Illinois University on April 7 and 8.

2016 LSMCE Annual Conference

  • The fourth annual LSMCE Conference, Prism of Possibilities: Focus on the Future, will be held in Lisle, Illinois on October 28-29, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Lisle near Naperville.
  • Students, faculty, and administrators actively involved with a Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) are encouraged to submit their research or scholarly work.

Honors Council of the Illinois Region

  • For undergraduate honors students ONLY, Honors Council of the Illinois Region has a Student Symposium
  • This will be held in the spring, date and place to be announced.

American Physical Society (APS) March meeting

  • Held every spring, the March meeting is the largest meeting of physicists doing research in condensed matter physics.
  • It will be held during the week of March 13-17, 2017 in New Orleans, LA (during our spring break).

 WIU Graduate Research Conference

WIU Physics Research Day

  • The WIU Physics Dept. sponsors Physics Research Day.
  • This will be held on the first Wednesday of April, April 5, starting at 4 p.m. in the Physical Science Library. 
  • It will feature posters by undergraduate and graduate physics students.

  • The Illinois State Academy of Science (ISAS) sponsors a student research conference each spring.
  • This will be held at Harper College in 2017, probably in mid-April.

WIU Undergraduate Research Day

  • The Honors College sponsors Undergraduate Research Day.
  • This will be held on the third Wednesday of April, April 19, in the Union Ballroom and also feature podium presentations and performances.

Physics Research Day 2016 announcement

Physics Research Day (PRD) is  Wednesday April 6, 4:00pm , in the Physical Sciences Library. All students doing research are encouraged to present a poster. 

All undergraduate students presenting at the Thomas E. Helm Undergraduate Research Day must participate in the Physics Research Day. The best undergraduate PRD poster will compete for best poster award at the Undergraduate Research Day.

The American Physical Society (APS) March meeting will be held during the week of March 2 -6 in San Antonio, Texas.

The Graduate Research Conference will be on   March 6   in the University Union.  All WIU graduate students interested in participating are encouraged to submit a proposal for a poster, paper presentation, or performance online by   January 30 , 2015.  A committee of faculty will review proposals and notify students of acceptance by   February 6 , 2015.
