Glossary of Nursing Program Terms
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.)
- A four year degree in Nursing from an accredited program; at WIU, a.k.a. the degree conferred upon successful completion of the nursing program requirements.
- Background Check
- A detailed check of an applicant's background which must be passed prior to admittance into the Nursing Program. Part of the overall health/safety requirements which are verified by Certified Background Check.
- Certified Nurses Aide (C.N.A.)
- A certification typically received upon successful completion of a C.N.A. program; credits do not transfer for the purposes of a four-year nursing degree.
- Health Requirements
- Health and safety requirements that must be met as a condition for continued participation in the Nursing Program.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.)
- A license typically received upon successful completion of an L.P.N. program; credits do not transfer for the purposes of a four-year nursing degree.
- Pre-Nursing
- A program of student for students who desire to enter into the Nursing program but have not yet met the qualifications of the Pre-Licensure BSN Program or the RN-BSN Program.
- Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (RN-BSN Program)
- Program of study for Registered Nurses who wish to complete their Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
