Fundraiser Set for Japan Relief Efforts
March 28, 2011
MACOMB, IL -- In response to the recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan, a fundraiser will be held at Western Illinois University today (Monday, March 28) and Tuesday-Wednesday, March 29-30.
The fundraiser, sponsored by WIU's Center for International Studies, Asian American Student Association and Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society, will be held in the University Union concourse. Donations will be given to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan.
"Our campus has always rallied to help others affected by tragedy. We encourage the University community to help in any way they can to support those in Japan who were affected by this horrific natural disaster," said Western Illinois University President Al Goldfarb. "The University sends its thoughts to those in our community who have friends and family in Japan."
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. For more information, visit redcross.org.
