The Western Courier earns seven awards from the Illinois College Press Association

The Western Courier, the student-run newspaper at the Western Illinois University, was honored with seven awards at the Illinois College Press Association’s annual convention in Chicago on February 18-19.

“The Courier staff works extremely hard throughout the year so it’s gratifying to see them recognized for their efforts,” said Rich Moreno, Director of Student Publications and adviser to the Courier.

Courier staff members earning ICPA awards included:

• First Place - Best Special Supplement - to the staff of the Western Courier

• Second Place - Best Feature Story - Ed Komenda

• Second Place - Best Spot News Photo - Ed Komenda

• Second Place - Best Feature Photo - Hank Moreno

• Third Place - Best Column (non sports) - Bethany Bekas

• Honorable Mention - News Story - Ed Komenda

• Honorable Mention - Headline Writing - Mick Vaught (Daily newspaper division)
The ICPA membership includes 39 college and university papers in Illinois. ICPA awards were judged by a panel of professional newspaper journalists from papers throughout the state.
