Boley named interim chair of physics at Western Illinois University

MACOMB, ILL. – Mark Boley, professor in the Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Western Illinois University has been appointed as interim chairperson of the department effective January 2. Boley takes over from Vivian Incera who resigned from the university to assume a post at the University of Texas – El Paso.

Boley has served on the College’s curriculum committee, faculty council, Environmental Studies minor committee, college assessment committee, and grade appeals committee. Among his service activities to his department, Boley has served on the departmental personnel committee; search committees; the curriculum and scheduling committee; and the graduate committee, which he chairs. Boley joined the faculty of WIU, his undergraduate alma mater, in 1994, and has held posts at Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Missouri – Columbia where he earned his doctorate.

“I am grateful to Mark for stepping up to help us while we conduct a national search for a new chairperson in the Department of Physics,” said College of Arts and Sciences Dean Inessa Levi. “Mark’s administrative experience will serve him and the department well in the coming months.”
