ALEKS Scores and WIU Math Placement
Upon completion of an assessment test, students will see:
- A placement score as a percentage and a detailed score for each set of topics tested.
- The corresponding WIU Math placement level and the cut-off scores for each placement category.
- Recommendation for a Prep and Learning Module.

ALEKS Retakes and Improving on Deficient Areas

Following each test, a recommendation for a Prep and Learning Module is displayed; the student can choose a single module from a list. We advise that students follow the recommendation.
The selected module contains a report in the form of a color-keyed pie chart. Each "slice" corresponds to a particular area (such as "decimals" or "fractions and proportions"), and may be opened to produce a list of the topics which the student can choose to work on.
WIU Prep and Learning Module Recommendations
To place out of:
- Category 1 into Category 2, select Prep for Intermediate Algebra or Prep for College Algebra.
- Category 2 into Category 3, select Prep for College Algebra.
- Category 3 into Category 4, select Prep for PreCalculus.
- Category 3 or 4 into Category 5, select Prep for Calculus.

*For fall 2021, beginning math courses are changing. Math 110 is a new course, which replaces Math 099. Students placed in Math 099, should take Math 110. Additional information on course changes can be found here.
