ALEX HEUER WINS THREE STATE-WIDE BROADCASTING AWARDS

History major Alex Heuer, a graduating senior from Swansea, won three broadcasting awards in the Illinois News Broadcasters' Association's 2008 state-wide competition in April. Mr. Heuer won the First-Place Award for Best Use of Sound, for his piece on "The Drunk Bus." He took Second Place in the "Soft" Radio Program category, for his public affairs program, "Emphasis," an interview with Dr. Larry T. Balsamo, now Professor Emeritus of History, and at the time of the interview, the History Department's soon-to-retire Department Chair. Mr. Heuer was also awarded Second Place in the statewide competition for Best News Reporter. The History Department is proud and delighted to have the talents and hard work of Alex Heuer, who is also the outgoing President of Western's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honorary Society. Overall, WIU students took home more awards from the INBA than any other university in Illinois.
