FIVE HISTORY MAJORS GRADUATE WITH HONORS
May 16, 2008
Three History-Teacher Education majors and two History majors graduated with honors at WIU's Spring 2008 Commencement ceremony in May. Adam Boyle of Oquawka, a History Teacher Education major, graduated Magna Cum Laude with an overall Grade Point Average over 3.9 (out of 4.0). The Magna Cum Laude designation recognizes the extraordinary academic achievements of Mr. Boyle while completing his studies at Western, where he earned the distinction of being on the Dean's List (Semester Honors) every semester at WIU.
The History Department's Cum Laude graduates this Spring include two History-Teacher Education majors and two History majors. The Cum Laude designation indicates that these students are graduating with distinction.
The Cum Laude History-Teacher Education majors this Spring are Honors Scholar Ryan Lambert of London Mills, the History Department's Spring 2008 Department Scholar, and Honors Scholar Jennifer Madgiak of Dyer, Indiana. "Honors Scholars" are students who have completed all the requirements of the Centennial Honors College, including researching and writing an undergraduate honors thesis. Mr. Lambert completed his honors thesis under the direction of Assistant Professor of History, Dr. Jennifer McNabb. Ms. Madgiak completed her honors thesis under the direction of Associate Professor of History, Dr. Walter Kretchik. Also graduating Cum Laude this Spring are History majors David Sprung of LaMoille and Paul Calhoun of Kewanee.
The Department of History congratulates all these exceptional students on their outstanding level of academic achievement. They were among the students honored at this Spring's Honors Convocation on Friday, May 9.
