Apr 21, 2009
WIU's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national History Honor Society, intiated twenty-six new student members on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Twenty-one History majors, three History minors, and two other students were welcomed into the honor society by Faculty Advisor Dr. Lee Brice, Associate Professor of History, Amy Kallenbach, Phi Alpha Theta President, and other current student and faculty members of the organization.
Sunday's initiates included five History graduate students: Blake Bell of Burlington, Iowa, Ryan Buller of Bartlett, Brian Kennedy of Galesburg, Daniel Marten of Macomb, and Eric Willey of Bardolph.
Four seniors were initiated, including History majors Daniel Clark of Macomb, John Kleidon of Chicago, and Steve Strohl of Jacksonville, and History Teacher Certification major Sarah Roberts of East Peoria.
The largest group of initiates were the nine History juniors. Junior History Teacher Certification majors Molly Brockman of Streator, Thomas Gockenbach of Barrington, Brandon Scheppers of Mendota, Kathleen Suarez of Lake Barrington, and Steven Szabo of Hampshire were intiated. They were joined by Junior History majors Sarah Garmer of Mendon, Micca Metz of Fairbury, Paul Skrzypczynski of Bolingbrook, and William Welt of Springfield.
The three sophomore History majors who joined the honor society were History Teacher Certification majors Cody Boland of Carol Stream, Matthew Bruning of Macomb, and Alex Schrift of Chicago.
In addition, three senior History minors -- Chad Givan of Lincoln, Adam Kubatzke of Savanna, and Scott Lenaway of Macomb -- joined the history honor society.
The two remaining new members were Daniel Buren of Macomb and Jenny Pelletier of Beach Park.
Membership in Phi Alpha Theta is based on overall cumulative GPA as well as GPA in History courses.
