History Scholarships and Awards

History Undergraduate Scholarships
$1,000 per year for 4 years divided between the fall and spring semesters. Awarded to a full-time History student who is in good standing at Western Illinois University and in the Centennial Honors College. Must have a GPA of 3.5. Applicant must demonstrate a solid record of campus and/or community service and a solid record of extracurricular participation (leadership preferred).
$1,000 or $2,000 per year for 4 years divided between the fall and spring semesters. Awarded to an incoming freshman history major. Must have a minimum ACT score of 27 or an ACT score of 22 and a high school class rank in the top 10%. Applicant must demonstrate outstanding student based on activities and community service.
$1,000 per year for 4 years divided between the fall and spring semesters is awarded to an incoming freshman history major. Applicant must have a minimum ACT score of 23 and demonstrate potential in the field of history.
$1,000 per year for up to 5 years divided between the fall and spring semesters will be awarded to an incoming freshman history teacher education major. Must be enrolled full-time and have a minimum ACT score of 28. Applicant must demonstrate leadership or civic duty through activities or community service.
Progressive scholarship award beginning with $2000 in the first year; $3000 in the second year; $4000 in the third year and $5000 in the fourth year divided between the fall and spring semesters. Applicant must be a History major with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Must have a demonstrated financial need.
$500 per semester (fall/spring) for 1 year will be awarded to a full-time history major. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and financial need, based on FAFSA. Applicant must have completed at least 30 semester hours (15 of which must have been completed at WIU) and be endorsed by a member of the history faculty as having solid academic potential. The application deadline for Fall semester is May 1 of the preceding Spring semester. The application deadline for Spring semester is December 1 of the preceding Fall semester: Haka Application Form
$1,000 per year for up to 2 years divided between the fall and spring semesters will be awarded to a history major. Must have completed 60 semester hours and have and maintain a GPA of 3.5. Applicant must submit a writing sample of no more than 10 pages which was originally submitted for credit in a History course and three letters of recommendation. Undergraduate Research Awards
(History majors and minors). Contact the faculty member with whom you wish to work, for further information.
A one-semester $500 is awarded to a junior or senior Honors History major. Must be a member of the Centennial Honors College completing upper-division Honors in History or completing University Honors in History. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.6 and be enrolled in HIST 490H (Honors Thesis) during the semester the award is given. Fall semester nomination deadline: December 1; Spring semester deadline: May 1. Contact the Department Chair for further information.
History Graduate Scholarships
$1,500 per year for up to 2 years divided between fall and spring semesters is awarded to a full-time graduate student in History. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have an undergraduate degree in History. Must submit a letter of application and a minimum of one letter or recommendation from a faculty member.
$750 one-time award will be a awarded to an M.A. History program student who is currently teaching full-time. Must demonstrate outstanding contributions to the field of history and/or the department.
Professor Emeritus Graduate Student Research Awards
A graduate student will be awarded up to $500 per research project or conference presentation.
