Ward Keynotes Journalism Day 2012, Fri, Oct. 19
Journalism Day is Friday, Oct. 19, at Western Illinois University. Each fall, this free, half-day workshop lets high school students explore journalism as a career.
Our keynote speaker will be Chris Ward, Director of Marketing and Communications for 88.1 KDHX, St. Louis' award-winning non-profit, independent radio station. Ward graduated with honors from Western Illinois University in 2003 with degrees in Broadcasting and Journalism; while at WIU, he served as Western Courier Opinions Editor and assistant editor of the Courier's "Edge" arts and entertainment section. He spent the next five years in New York as one of the head writers and editors for Wizard Magazine: The Guide to Pop Culture. He returned to the Midwest as a nationally published freelance columnist for Village Voice Media, feature writer, journalist and comic book writer before joining KDHX.
In addition to Ward’s talk, WIU’s journalism professors will lead breakout sessions and offer optional tours of the campus newspaper, radio and TV stations.
