Professor Young has a Ph.D. in American literature and is the author of African American Women Playwrights Confront Violence:  A Critical Study of Nine Dramatists.  She has published widely on Angelina Weld Grimke, Mary Powell Burrill, Georgia Douglas Johnson, and Alice Dunbar-Nelson.
