“Fade To Black.”
The Department of Art is proud to present “Fade To Black.” This is the first of what is planned to be an annual show that is intended to highlight the art and talent of Western Illinois University’s African American art students. During Fall 2009, Stephen Taylor, a graduate intern in the Malpass Library, contacted Charles Wright, Chair of the Department of Art, about planning this event for Black History Month. The show that followed is the result of the hard work and planning that was done to help students in the Department of Art celebrate Black History Month.
The opening event of the show got started with a reading by Kevin Smith. Kevin is one of the six student’s who participated in the exhibit. The others are, Nicholas Bibbs, Anitra Jordan, Thomas Sewell, Whitney Waller, and Jalisa Hike. Professor Wright also has two small sculptures on display.
Thomas Sewell, a graphic design student, agreed to develop a poster for the show.Thomas also came up with the “Fade To Black” theme.
Professor Wright noted that this has been an excellent opportunity for the students to share in an experience that highlights their talents. The work will remain on exhibit in the Garden Lounge area of Malpass Library until February 26, 2010.
