Annual Departmental Majors and Organization Fair | Honors Students Help at Maple Syrup Festival
Second Annual Departmental Majors and Organization Fair
On March 4, The Student Honors Association (SHA) held the second annual Departmental Majors and Organization Fair in the Union Heritage Room. Student representatives from 25 academic departments as well as staff from the University Advising and Academic Support Center answered questions about potential majors. Many Honors students played key roles, helping with check in, record-keeping, and—for younger students visiting from local schools—folding and decorating newspaper “thinking caps”! In all, about 125 students came by, which was a large increase over last year’s attendance.
Honors Students Help at Maple Syrup Festival
On March 7, six Centennial Honors College students donated their time, talent, and good cheer at the annual Maple Syrup Festival at Lake Argyle. The day’s events included maple tree tapping, syrup preparation, story-telling for kids, Boy Scout demonstrations, and various other activities.
In the shelter at the craft table, the Honors College students, volunteering for Western’s All Volunteer Effort (WAVE), assisted young and old in creating ornamental jewelry. Ryan Ashby, Elizabeth Leonard, Jordan Liles, Chelsey Moore, Brittany Palmer, and Crystal Sewell guided those who visited their table. For their work, they were rewarded with the smiles of the crowd—and lunchtime pizza as well as vegetarian chili and turkey soup supplied by the park's Natural Resources Coordinator.
