Speed Dating Social Mixer Returns to Campus
April 2, at 8:30 p.m., Speed Dating II comes back to the Union Heritage Room! The After Hours Committee provides opportunity for students to meet new friends, make new acquaintances, and maybe find a date in a safe and fun facilitated environment! Immediately following the Speed Dating II event, the Coffeehouse Committee will sponsor folk musician Jennifer Daniels in the Union Billiards Room. Daniels tours the country with Jeff Neal, whose guitar and mandolin add sophisticated moods and textures to her vocal and guitar talents. Daniels' music stylings have been compared to the likes of Ani DiFranco, Dido, or Sarah McLachlan. Admission is free.
UUB Brings Social Documentary Film to Campus
Social Activist/Filmmaker Michael Moore is at it again with his current Academy Award nominated documentary focusing on the U.S. health care system. Using interviews and high–profile historical examples, Moore makes a credible case for a mismanaged and ill-thought-out American health insurance system. He exposes big-business driven pharmaceutical companies, as well as the politicians who have been paid millions to support them in the political process. He showcases how, in his opinion, America can learn from the successes of other countries in providing higher quality, more easily accessible health care for all citizens.
Admission is $2 for students, faculty & staff with ID and $3 for public. In Music: Alternative Rockers Invade Campus
One of the biggest bands to come out of Chicago, Lucky Boys Confusion, will give a special acoustic performance outside the basement level of the Union on April 30. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., Hart Felt Sorrow from Springfield will open the event. Known on campus as “the awesome band that played at Open Mic Night,” Hart Felt Sorrow returns to provide even more great sounds. Swizzle Tree, another Chicago based band, will take the stage as a special guest and Lucky Boys will close the evening with even more fab music. It will be an evening to remember. Some refreshments will be available. Admission is free. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Billiards Room.
In Edutainment: Sex Signals Comedic Presentation
To observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Issues and Ideas Committee is sponsoring the Sex Signals Interactive Sexual Assault Awareness program Wednesday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m., in the Union Heritage Rooms. Through the use of improvisational comedy, education and audience interaction, this effective and engaging 75 minute, two-person play strikes a balance between laughing about the differences between men and women and facilitating discussion about dating, sex and the key issue of consent. Limited seating is available. Admissions is free.
