Agriculture Department Scholarships
Western Illinois University
- DR. L. R. BAIN SCHOLARSHIP
- One $500 award divided between the fall & spring semesters. Available to entering freshmen who plan to major in pre-veterinary medicine. Applicants must be residents of McDonough, Hancock, Schuyler, Warren, or Knox counties. A grade point average of 3.0 or better is required. Only seniors in the top one-fourth of their class are eligible to apply. The scholarship is renewable if the recipient maintains a GPA of 3.0 or better and reapplies to the School of Agriculture. Applications are due September 7.
- BARTLETT ARBORICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP
- Two $1,000 awards (one in the fall and one in the spring) for students pursuing a career in arboriculture or urban forestry. Scholarship is open to all majors. Freshmen must have an ACT of 22 and be in the top third of their class. Transfer/current students must have college GPA of 3.0. Recipients may reapply but will not receive preferential consideration. Applications are due September 7.
- CITIZENS NATIONAL BANK
- One $100 award to a junior majoring in agricultural finance and one $100 award to a junior majoring in agricultural management. Criterion: scholarship, leadership, and service. Applications are due September 7.
- GROWMARK
- Two $1,000 awards to agriculture majors who are junior or senior level students. Applicant and recipient must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50, be resident of Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, or Missouri, demonstrate a sincere interest in a career in the agriculture industry, demonstrate leadership qualities and be involved in agricultural related outside activities. Agriculture related experience is required; farming experience is preferred. Applications are due in May.
- DR. HARRY J. HOERNER SCHOLARSHIP
- Two $300 awards to agriculture majors who are in good academic standing. Applicant must have completed 24 s.h. at WIU and be enrolled in their third semester at WIU (sophomore standing). Applicant must be involved in ag club activities. Applications are due September 7.
- IFCA SCHOLARSHIP
- Five $750 scholarships will be awarded by IFCA (Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association). Applications must be returned to IFCA by December 18, 2009.
- ILLINOIS DIRECTOR OF AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIPS
- Three $1,000 awards to freshmen and two $1,000 awards to transfer students. Criterion-Freshmen: from a farm family, ACT of 20 and upper 20% of High School class; Transfers: must be from a farm family and have 3.0 G.P.A. from previous college. Applications are due September 7.
- MCDONOUGH TELEPHONE COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIP
- One $100 award to an agriculture business major. First choice granted to a student from McDonough, Warren, Henderson, Hancock or Schuyler counties. Criterion--scholarship, seeking a career in agri-business and financial need. Applications are due September 7.
- DR. JOHN S. McVICKAR SCHOLARSHIP
- One $750 award divided between the fall & spring semesters. Available to an entering freshman or transfer student who plans to pursue a major in the field of plant science and/or soil conservation. Applicant must be a resident of Illinois and possess a minimum ACT score of 20. Applications are due September 7.
- MID-AMERICA NATIONAL BANK SCHOLARSHIP
- One $1,000 awarded divided between the Fall & Spring semesters. Available to an entering freshman or transfer student who graduated from a high school in McDonough or Fulton counties. Freshmen must have an ACT of 23 or rank in the upper 25% of their graduating class. Transfer students must have GPA of 3.0 from previous college. Applications are due September 7.
- JOHN "DOC" REEVES URBAN FORESTRY SCHOLARSHIP
- One $500 award to a full-time junior or senior forestry major who has completed Forestry 208. Student must have 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The scholarship is renewable if the recipient maintains a GPA of 3.0 or better and reapplies to the Agriculture Department. Applications are due September 7.
- CLARENCE E. NEFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- One $500 award to a junior, senior or transfer student majoring in agriculture. Student must have GPA of 3.25 or better and reside in the 17th Congressional District. Financial need will be considered. Applications are due September 7.
- DR. LOREN K. ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP
- Two $300 awards divided between the fall & spring semesters. Available to entering freshmen or transfer students who plan to pursue a major in the field of animal science. Applicants must be residents of Illinois & possess a minimum ACT of 20. Applications are due September 7.
- SPOON RIVER VALLEY CONSERVATION AND SPORTSMAN’S ASSOCIATION
- One $1,000 award to a junior or senior student majoring in conservation and pursuing a career in conservation. Applicant must have a GPA of 2.75. First preference is given to applicants from Fulton County, IL. Applications are due September 7.
- JIM WEHRLY AG FINANCE SCHOLARSHIP
- One $1,000 award to a junior with a respectable GPA, with an interest in a career associated with agricultural finance. This scholarship is renewable. Applications are due May 1. Click on link for expectations.
- DR. JERRY VIGUE SCHOLARSHIP
- One $700 award divided between fall and spring semesters. Applicants must be majoring in Agriculture and have completed a minimum of 30 hours at WIU by the end of the semester of application. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and preference will be given to applicants that are active in Agriculture activities, clubs and student organizations. Applications are due May 1.
- TALENT GRANT AND TUITION WAIVERS
- The Agriculture Department at WIU has available several Talent Grants and Tuition Waivers for persons with demonstrated competency in the area of livestock judging. Contact the Agriculture Department, Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL 61455 for information regarding eligibility and availability.
- WESTERN HIGH SCHOOL TRIBUTE SCHOLARSHIP
- One $5,000 award divided between fall and spring semesters. Applicants must have applied and been accepted as incoming freshman at WIU and declared a major in Agriculture. Applicants must reside in McDonough County or contiguous counties to McDonough County. A minimum of 3.0 (B) average at his/her high school at the time of graduation is required. Applicants must submit an essay, no longer than one page, that states his/her understanding of and commitment to a major in agriculture. Preference will be given to applicants that can document social responsibility, relevant work experience and have participated in FFA and/or 4-H. Interest in forestry is a plus for this scholarship.
