Candidates for admission into the Special Education Graduate program must meet the criteria for admission to the School of Graduate Studies. In addition, candidates must have a valid teaching certificate in their state of residence prior to submitting a departmental application, a letter of intent and three letters of reference to the department. The Departmental Graduate Committee will evaluate the application materials and make appropriate recommendations for acceptance or rejection. Upon admission to the program, the student will be assigned an adviser with whom they will design a Graduate Degree Plan.

Prerequisites

Students applying to the program need to have completed the following course requirements if they were not included in their undergraduate program that led to the teaching certificate that they possess:

  • A survey course in exceptional individuals
  • A course in the teaching of reading
  • A course in the teaching of mathematics
  • A course in the use of computer technology in the classroom
