University 100 Instructors -Classroom Techniques: Motivating Millennials for Success

Description: This session will cover several essential skills to assist and encourage student learning and engagement. Topics to be covered include: (1) using digital media and active learning to motivate and instruct disengaged students, (2) encouraging student note-taking to improve student learning, critical thinking application, and listening skills, (3) employing conflict resolution strategies to defuse hot moments in the classroom (situations when a student says
something offensive, insensitive, thoughtless, or unexpectedly controversial) and to transform them into instructional opportunities for growth, and (4) measuring student learning through formative and summative assessment techniques.
