Flipping the Classroom for a Better Student/Teacher Experience
Date: Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014
Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location: Malpass Library, Room 180
Instructor(s): Jessica Harriger

Description: Flipping the classroom takes the traditional "chalk and talk" portion out of the class and instead uses class time for practice problems, hands-on activities, discussions, group work, and other experiential learning activities. It has been highly touted in the press, Journals on Higher Education, and is viewed by many as the forefront of educational pedagogy. Current course flipper, Dr. Jessica Harriger (Assistant Professor of Economics), will outline the key elements to successfully "flipping" the class. She will address the common questions, challenges, and tips learned by her and other course flippers at WIU. This session is designed for anyone interested in learning more about the idea of flipping, preparing for their own flipped course, or experienced classroom flippers.
