College of Fine Arts and Communication
9/6: COFAC Fest from 11am-1pm. Join the College of Fine Arts and Communication on the lawn between Browne and Memorial Hall, as we showcase the talents and highlights of our departments. Enjoy live performances by the School of Music, as well as current music by the Department of Broadcasting and Journalism’s, The Dog 88.3. FREE hot dogs and drinks will be provided and the event is open to all WIU Students.
9/6: The Department of Art presents First Wednesday from 7-9pm in Garwood Hall, the Heating Plant Annex (HPA), & The University Art Gallery. The community is invited to participate in this FREE, hands-on art opportunity. Choose from a wide variety of art projects, suitable for children-adults.
9/7, 9/14, 9/21, 9/28: The Department of Art presents Throwing Thursdays, every Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm during the Fall Semester in the Heating Plant Annex room 111. The event features free, creative fun for all WIU students, learning how to throw on the potter’s wheel. No previous skills or materials are required. Annual Scholarship Concert
9/15: The Western Illinois University School of Music presents the Annual Scholarship Concert at 7:30pm in the COFAC Recital Hall. The concert will feature Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, University Singers, and the Jazz Studio Orchestra.
9th Annual Beerfest
9/23: Western Illinois University Performing Arts Society presents the 9th Annual Beerfest event from noon to 6pm at the Forum. Cover charge for the event is $10 for general public and $5 for students (must be 21 to enter). Guests can then purchase $1 each beer tickets (beer samples between 1-3 tickets each) or the inclusive $30 VIP Wristband. Wristband includes flat rate sampling, access to the VIP Food Buffet, special gift, as well as access to the ALL-NEW bourbon sampling and Bourbon County Stout vertical flight tasting. Beethoven’s Complete Works for Cello and Piano
9/26-9/27: The Western Illinois University School of Music presents a special two night performance of Beethoven’s complete works for cello and piano, featuring Liang-yu Wang, piano and special guest, Thomas Landschoot, cello. Both concerts are at 7:30pm and free and open to the public.
25th Anniversary of Sports Broadcasting
9/30: The Department of Broadcasting and Journalism proudly celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Sports Broadcasting at Western Illinois University. Broadcasting alumni are invited to a celebration reception in Q-lot during Homecoming tailgating at 1pm, next to the Alumni tent. Guests will receive a sports broadcasting t-shirt, complimentary lunch, tours of the truck and/or broadcasting/journalism floor, and the first 20 to RSVP will receive a free game ticket. Additionally, alumni are invited to share their WIU Sports Broadcasting pictures and memories on the Department of Broadcasting and Journalism social media. WIU Choirs Homecoming Concert with Alumni Choir
9/30: The WIU School of Music will host the WIU Choirs Homecoming Concert with Alumni Choir at 7:30pm in the COFAC Recital Hall. All alumni who have sung in choirs at WIU are welcome to participate, as Dr. Stegall celebrates his last year at WIU. The concert rehearsal will begin with a 5:00pm check-in, followed by 5:30pm rehearsal. A 9:00pm post concert reception will follow at the WIU Alumni House at 1009 W. Adams. Rocky on Parade
9/30: The WIU Department of Art will unveil the final Rocky on Parade dogs in the WIU Homecoming Parade, followed by display throughout tailgating in Q-lot, immediately in front of the Rec Center. This final round of 27 dogs will round out the pack, to be placed in their permanent locations in early November.
