We Are Western - Faculty/Staff Campaign

We are Western is the theme of the Faculty & Staff campaign that is part of the current $60 million capital campaign to ensure student success at Western Illinois University. According to Foundation Annual Fund Director Tim Hallinan, “Regardless of the job we do, students ultimately benefit from our effort.”

The Annual Faculty & Staff Campaign allows the employees of Western Illinois University to make a difference beyond the day-to-day service to students. Through giving, employees demonstrate a personal as well as collective commitment to students and the university.

In fiscal year 2012 (ending June 30, 2012), 515 faculty/staff and emeriti donated a total of $258,116. These contributions were directed mostly to student scholarships, and also supported academic programs, athletics, the performing arts and more.

Employees may contribute a one-time gift to an area of their choosing, or participate through payroll deduction. A suggested amount of $10 per paycheck means $120 or $240 a year to support students. A gift of $25 per month from ten employees translates to $3,000 in scholarship assistance for deserving students. Participation is more important than amount.

All contributors to the Annual Faculty & Staff Campaign will receive a purple We are Western wristband to wear in support of students. Students who have benefited from employee contributions will deliver the wristbands during the month of October. Everyone will be asked to wear the wristbands in celebration during National Philanthropy Week, November 12-16.

The WIU Foundation is pleased to report that the Higher Values in Higher Education Campaign is 89% to its goal of $60 million, having raised $53.5 million. Announced in 2006, the Campaign is in effect until December 31, 2013. The campaign’s fundraising efforts are focused on keeping a Western education accessible to as many students as possible, regardless of their means, and of continual improvement of that educational experience.
