Center for International Studies

The Center for International Studies launched its inaugural edition of the "Global Connections" newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter is to inform people about the Center's many activities and give a glimpse into how we bring the world to Western Illinois University!

Wednesday, November 1

3:00 - 4:00 PM: International Coffee Hour - Nigeria, Horrabin Hall 1

Sample traditional tea and snacks from Nigeria while learning about the culture.

Friday, November 3

6:00 PM: Taste of India Scholarship Fundraiser, Campus Students for Christ House (1545 Riverview Dr.)

Enjoy authentic Indian food, entertainment, and a silent auction. Tickets may be purchased in advance ($7 for students, $12 for general admission) at the Center for International Studies (3rd Floor, Memorial Hall 347) and Citizens Bank in downtown Macomb. 5:30 PM: International Game Night, Horrabin Hall 1

Join international students for a fun game night! Games and snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite game to share!

Tuesday, November 7

12:30 PM: Cultural Café: Bangladesh, Heritage Room, 2nd floor University Union

Sample authentic Bangladeshi food and learn about the culture of Bangladesh.

Wednesday, November 8

5:30 PM: Hunger Banquet,Heritage Room, 2nd floor University Union

Thursday, November 9

7:00 PM: Early Holidays with the Organization of Arab Students, Multicultural Center

Come learn about different holidays and enjoy traditional Arabic food.

Friday, November 10

5:00 PM - 11:00 PM, Diwali Night, Heritage Room, 2nd floor Union

Celebrate the Festival of Lights, Diwali!  Entertainment will start at 5:00 in the Heritage Room and dinner will be at 8:30 in the Multicultural Center.

Saturday, November 11

11:00 AM: Indoor World Cup Soccer Tournament, Donald Spencer Student Recreation Center

Games will be played using Intramural Indoor Soccer rules (5 vs. 5 ). Register online at imleagues.com/wiu by Tuesday, November 7th

Tuesday, November 14

5:30-7:00 PM: On the Way to School, Sandburg Theater, basement University Union.

This film focuses on children from all over the world and their journeys just to attend school.  Sponsored by the Peace Corps.

Tuesday, November 28

7:00 PM: He Named Me Malala, Sandburg Theatre, basement University Union

This documentary follows Malala as she advocates for the rights of women and girls access to education.
