Men's Soccer Announces 2012 Season Team Awards
Western Illinois men's soccer celebrated its 2012 Summit League Championship with a season-ending banquet at Red Ox on Saturday night (April 20).
Head coach Dr. Eric Johnson honored each of the four graduating seniors, and also announced the team award winners as voted on by the players.

Men's Golf Finishes Fourth in Summit League Championships
The Fighting Leathernecks 2013 spring season concluded with a fourth-place finish at The Summit League Championships Wednesday (April 24) afternoon in Texas. Western Illinois finished with a three-round score of 917 (298-308-311) and was led by sophomore Nate Davis who finished fourth individually with a 221 (71-74-76).
"We really gained a lot of confidence over the final weeks of our spring season," said head coach Mel Blasi. "We return everyone except senior Ben Kilborn next year, so hopefully this year's league championship finish will be a stepping stone for better things next year."
Athletics Announces Prize Drawings Throughout June
Leatherneck Football fans who renew or purchase season ticket packages for the upcoming 2013 season will be eligible for a prize drawing every day throughout the month of June.
Those who purchase or renew their season tickets prior to June 1 will be in the drawing all month long. Anyone who purchases or renews after June 1st will be entered into the drawing for the remainder of the month.
Fans will receive one (1) entry for every season ticket they purchase or renew. Every season ticket that is purchased or renewed online at GoLeathernecks.com will result in two (2) entries. Fans can only win one prize. Prize winners will be contacted by phone and the winners will also be listed on GoLeathernecks.com.
Jim Molinari Named NABC All-District 12 'Coach of the Year'
Western Illinios head men's basketball coach Jim Molinari has been named a 2013 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District coach for District 12.
The honor, which is selected by other college basketball coaches, is the second of coach Molinari's career. Molinari earned All-District coaching honors for District 11 while at Northern Illinois in 1991. No other Western Illinois coach has earned the honor.
Western Illinois has its best season in the program's NCAA Division I history in 2012-13. The Leathernecks earned 22 wins, which is the most-ever earned during Western Division I history, a share of the program's first-ever true Summit League regular season championship, started the season 14-3, the program's best-ever start to a season during Division I era, and put together the program's longest win streak in 11 games.
Women’s Basketball Celebrates Season at Banquet
Western Illinois head women’s basketball coach JD Gravina, his staff and players celebrated the accomplishments of the 2012-13 season at the program’s end of year banquet.
Gravina honored the five graduating seniors: Michele Salvatori, Jackie Rieger, Christina Jones, Saule Kontautaite and Karis Phillips.
Western finished the year 14-16 overall, losing in double-overtime in the Summit League Tournament quarterfinals. The program increased its win total by two from last year, and in the regular season finale win over Oakland saw 1,156 fans in attendance – the second-largest crowd ever in Western Hall. Overall Western averaged 644 fans at home, the largest season average in six years.
Women's Golf Concludes Summit League Championships in Fifth
The 2013 women's golf team concluded its season with a fifth-place finish in The Summit League Championships Wednesday (April 24) after recording a 997 (340-333-324) during the three-day event.
"I was pleased that our team was able to improve on their scores each day of the tournament," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "It was nice for our team to be able to improve a spot in the final standings after the final round and end our season on a positive note."
