Career Development Center
Collaboration and Student Leadership Initiatives
Collaboration seems to be the theme for the Career Development Center this academic year. Last semester, we created a Career Development Leadership Committee to look into implementing a four year career development plan for students. We also created a Faculty Advisory Board to offer our office feedback about serving their students and planning events in collaboration with their departments. Both groups have only met a couple of times, so we are still in the brainstorming stages for both groups.
This semester, our graduate assistants are helping us in our collaboration efforts. One graduate assistant is researching the viability of a program to connect retirees in the Macomb area to current WIU students to do mock interviews and serve as mentors, and another assistant is creating a career development student organization called Delta Epsilon Iota. This academic honor society focuses on career development and leadership, and the members will assist our office with marketing, career fairs, presentations, among other responsibilities. The office is excited about these new initiatives and we welcome any ideas from alumni and other WIU constituents about our efforts in the office.
