Join WIU in July for the Wetzel Hall Implosion and Other UHDS Weekend Events
Open in September of 1970, Wetzel Hall was used for nearly four decades as a home for more than 20,000 Western students.
Wetzel will officially be decommissioned during the morning of Saturday, July 14, 2012 (weather permitting). Early plans for the celebration include an evening dinner on Friday, July 13, the morning viewing of the implosion on Saturday followed by an afternoon golf outing. All WIU alumni are invited to attend any or all of these events. If you would like to be a part of the demolition by pushing the plunger on the day of the Wetzel implosion, you can take part in the Text-2 Plunge event. Information can be found online. Details about the events and registration will be posted online in mid-June.
In the meantime, you are invited to share your favorite memories of Wetzel Hall. If you would like to share your story for the virtual scrapbook, visit A Celebration of Wetzel Hall.
